CaporalesThe CAPORALES dance is a dance of African-Bolivian origins. Its roots can be traced to the dense mountain jungle of the YUNGAS REGION. It has become a popular dance with the youth of Bolivia and throughout the world. For more than 20 years, Sangre Boliviana has distinguished itself with the CAPORALES dance, participating in various parades and contests.

The CAPORALES dance became popular in the 1970's as an expresion of neo-folklore. And although its rythm is that of the Afro-Bolivian YUNGAS REGION, its dance steps are modern and manifestation of urban trends and styles. It is also a dance that satirizes spanish colonialiaztion, taking personages of spanish society and mocking their dress and movement. The CAPORAL or foreman ridicules the indigineous and africans who sold out their own and became the enforcers of the spanish regime. The modern costume exagerates their traditional vestement.
